Volunteer

Mentoring relationships are an essential part of the “Girls Inc. Experience”

Apply to Become a Volunteer

There are two ways to volunteer at Girls Inc. of Los Angeles: supporting events and workshops or serving as a classroom volunteer.

If you’d like to support our girls but don’t have the time to commit every week or your company is interested in one-time volunteer engagements, please reach out to Ana Zavala at azavala@girlsincla.org.

If you’d like to learn more about working consistently in the classroom, please see below.

CLASSROOM VOLUNTEER

Classroom volunteers for Girls Inc. of Los Angeles support program instructors with meaningful activities and structured lessons built around our core tenets of Strong, Smart and Bold after school. Volunteers engage and support elementary, middle school and high school students.

Girls Inc. fosters a positive environment that encourages girls to be their authentic selves in a socially and emotionally safe environment. A successful volunteer will be a near-peer who has relevant experience working with youth or girls on curricular topics that help equip girls with a positive self image, confidence and skill sets to navigate the world. An ideal volunteer will share their own lived experiences and demonstrate a commitment to empowering girls to bolster their inherent strengths as they explore learning opportunities accessible through our program and partnerships.

Every classroom volunteer must go through an application, interview and screening process. If you are accepted, the program team will work to assign you to a classroom that fits your schedule and creates the best learning environment for the girls. Please note that an assignment may not always be available and you may be invited to support events and workshops instead.

What is the schedule like? Classroom volunteers support instructors with weekly activities once or twice a week from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm, 2 to 3 hours a day at one of our partner LAUSD locations in West and South Los Angeles.
